Facial Hair Guide
You must be clean-shaven anytime you wear a respirator, including when getting fit tested. If you can't shave, talk to your employer or school about options. Or call us for guidance.
The Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists' RESP-FIT accrediting body has recently released a statement noting that fit tests performed using the Singh Thatta Beard Wrap Technique are considered INVALID and NON-COMPLIANT.

If you are a clinical student and opt to pay for a fit test using the Singh Thatta Technique at another company, your clinical placement site may reject your certificate which must state, on the document, that the test was performed with facial hair and is considered non-compliant.
If you're a bearded healthcare worker or student in Victoria, you may enroll in a trial at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Click here for more information.
